Kids In Concert is a 90 student-strong joyful community of young musicians. We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, create, and perform music, regardless of background, ability, or identity.

Founded in 2010 as a partnership with the Suquamish Tribe's Early Learning Center, Kids in Concert has grown into a four-day-a-week free music and youth development program serving students ages 6-18 from across North Kitsap County.

More than a music program, KIC is committed to:

1. Quality instruction and performance opportunities. We offer small group and individual instruction in strings and percussion, plus participation in ensemble and choir.

2. Equitable access. KIC is a barrier-free environment where all students are welcomed. There are no auditions, no tuition, and no prior experience is needed.

3. Youth development. Our programming cultivates compassion, developmental wellbeing, and leadership, producing graduates ready to contribute to positive social change.

We believe that music is for everyone.

  • 45% of our students identify as BIPOC
  • 19% are tribal members
  • Students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds and represent all ages and developmental stages.
  • Straight, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and neurotypical, KIC students show up as their full selves, knowing that they will be celebrated for who they are.

In addition to music education, KIC also provides:

  • Healthy and Whole social-emotional learning taught by trained mental health professionals
  • College readiness programming, including a free annual college tour for all high school students
  • Healthy snacks
  • Homework assistance
  • A mentorship model where students gain responsibilities as they grow in the program

We are proud to be recognized by the Seattle Symphony as a Community Partner.

Giving Activity

Mission

Cultivating compassion and developmental well-being of youth through the healing power of music.

Needs

KIC has grown in direct response to the needs of our students and the broader community. As access to music education continues to shrink in many schools, KIC has stepped up to ensure students still have consistent, high-quality music instruction, mentorship, and a place to belong. We currently have 90 children enrolled in our program and 32 on our waitlist. We would love to bring more children into our program, but this requires more teachers and adult staff.

Meeting this increased demand has real costs. As a result, KIC currently has a funding gap to sustain the program at its current level. Closing this gap will allow us to continue rising to the occasion for our students and families!
