About KLAM

Rural Delivery - Circa 1980KLAM (Kitsap Local Arts & Music) is a 24/7 nonprofit community internet radio station founded in 2025 to celebrate, preserve, and amplify the creative voices that shape Kitsap County’s cultural life.

Our programming highlights the musicians, artists, storytellers, and community voices that define this region — from longtime working performers and local bands to youth musicians, Indigenous artists, poets, and community storytellers.

In a media landscape dominated by large national platforms and commercial algorithms, KLAM offers something different: a place where local culture comes first.

We provide a platform for Kitsap creators who have built their work within the community — often without access to strong promotion — while also documenting and preserving the stories and recordings that define our region’s artistic history.

Why It Matters

Neighbor Dave - Local WeathermanKitsap County has a deep and vibrant arts culture, but much of it exists outside traditional media channels. Many of the musicians, artists, and storytellers who shape the local creative landscape have limited opportunities for broadcast, documentation, or preservation.

At the same time, important pieces of Kitsap’s cultural history — recordings, stories, and community knowledge — risk being lost if they are not preserved.

KLAM exists to ensure that local voices are heard and remembered.

Through community radio, archival preservation, and live recordings, we are building a platform that celebrates Kitsap’s creative life both today and for future generations.

What Your Donation Makes Possible

Kitsap Naturalist - Regular SeriesSupport from donors helps us grow a community-powered platform dedicated to Kitsap’s arts and culture.

  • Maintain and operate 24/7 nonprofit community radio
  • Digitize and preserve historic local recordings
  • Produce live recording sessions with Kitsap musicians
  • Showcase youth musicians and Indigenous artists
  • Capture oral histories from Kitsap’s musical legends
  • Share community storytelling, poetry, and cultural programming

We are also working toward providing artist stipends and honoraria, ensuring that local musicians and storytellers are compensated for contributing their work and time.

Our Needs

Meara Kat - Kitsap MusicianKLAM is currently powered almost entirely by volunteer effort. Running a 24/7 community station requires ongoing work in programming, production, archiving, technical infrastructure, and community outreach.

Our next step is establishing modest, responsible compensation for core contributors so the station can remain sustainable and continue growing.

Donations also support the development of artist stipends, recording projects, and preservation work that protect Kitsap’s cultural history.

Example Impact

  • $50 helps support station operations and broadcasting costs
  • $100 helps digitize and preserve historic local recordings
  • $250 supports a live recording session with a Kitsap musician
  • $500 helps fund artist stipends and community programming
