About Us - Sailing in Silverdale

Dyes Inlet and the Port of Silverdale is a perfect location to learn to sail, join a sailing team, or attend a regatta. Sailors can range across Dyes Inlet without worries about things like strong currents, commercial traffic, or dangerous obstructions. Dyes Inlet is shallow which means it warms up early in the season and is quite refreshing on hot summer days. The long dock and scenic waterfront park provide great viewing of practices, regattas, Mt Rainier and the Olympic Mountains. The Port of Silverdale, with support from the Kitsap Sailing Foundation (KSF), a non-profit organization, offers near year round youth and adult sailing opportunities.

High School Sailing

Competitive High School Sailing is available to secondary school students in the Central Kitsap region at the Port of Silverdale. Co-ed teams from Olympic, Klahowya, and Central Kitsap schools have practiced and traveled together since 2006. In addition to our local High School students, the sailing team is popular with Running Start students, and private and homeschooled students may also join. No prior sailing experience is required to join in the Fall season (Spring season requires coach approval). The Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA) (www.nwisa.org) governs high school sailing in the region with over 55 teams and teams are growing rapidly. Local sailing teams currently hail from North Kitsap, Kingston, Bainbridge Island, Gig Harbor and Central Kitsap. Experienced high school sailors may choose to become US Sailing Level 1 Instructors and are eligible to obtain summer positions teaching youth sailing camps.

Summer Sailing Camps and Lessons

Summer sailing camps emphasize learning sailing skills and include STEM curriculum for youth ages 8+. Weeklong sailing camps are offered through the end of June - July in the summers. Visit www.kitsapsailingfoundation.org for more information.

KSF recently re-launched our Adult and Family Sailing Lessons in the summer as well. These lessons provide the opportunity for whole families to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of Dyes Inlet and the Port of Silverdale.

KSF works hard to keep sailing accessible and affordable to help youth learn skills for a lifetime. Your donation will help bolster our scholarship fund, as well as help us maintain our boats and equipment to sustain these valuable programs.

Giving Activity

Mission

Kitsap Sailing Foundation is a community program run by volunteers, along with the Port of Silverdale. Our mission is to create opportunities for people of all ages to grow through sailing - building confidence, leadership, seamanship, and a strong sense of community on the water. The Port brings programs for sailing to the public through its cooperation with the non-profit (501-C3) Kitsap Sailing Foundation, which runs community sailing programs and maintains program equipment.

Needs

Kitsap Sailing Foundation provides sailing opportunities for youth and adults in Kitsap County.

Our 2026 Kitsap Great Give goal is to raise $3,000 to bolster our scholarship fund, as well as keep our safety and sailboats in top condition.

Our current High School team is comprised of many talented Senior sailors who will soon be graduating and headed off into the world for their next chapter. With increased scholarship opportunity, we hope to welcome the next generation of talented youth sailors in Kitsap County through our summer programs and our Fall team enrollment.

Additionally, if you've ever owned a boat, or known a boat owner, you are aware there is always maintenance to be done to help keep them running and reliable. Donations to our maintenance fund are always welcome so we can continue to conduct necessary upgrades and repairs to both our sailboats and safety boats that support our programs.

We are grateful for any support you can provide, no matter how big or small. Every dollar counts, and your donation will make a real difference in the success of the Kitsap Sailing Foundation. Together, we can create a strong foundation for future sailors in Kitsap County. Thank you for your support!
