NKTA is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to promoting /supporting community and regional trails of all types as well as trail access for users of all ages, abilities and interests. As an advocate for parks, open space conservation, non-motorized active transportation and recreation, NKTA sponsors trail projects with your donations as well as partners with organizations like GPC, PS2P, Kitsap Forest & Bay Project, Kitsap Park's volunteer stewardship groups and EMBA-West Sound.
Since 2008, NKTA has used your donations to advocate for and maintain Kitsap's envisioned system of land and water trails that connects North Kitsap communities, parks, open space, schools, Tribal lands and private developments as opportunities for walking, rolling and paddling. Our goal is for a regional trail network that serves all types of users, that connects and boosts the local community's health, pride, outdoor access and local economy. NKTA believes that there is room for all non-motorized users, whether on horseback, with a stroller, training wheels or those seeking a quiet place to look for birds.

2025 Accomplishments
In addition to our ongoing efforts related to the STO and successfully delivering on the commitments in progress under the $16.13 million RAISE grant, we successfully raised grant monies for additional trail building and maintenance tools, had multiple trail work parties including completing the Evan Stoll memorial viewing platform and bench at Port Gamble Heritage Park, collaborated with Peninsula Trails Coalition/Jefferson County to support connection of their non-motorized trails with the Olympic Discovery Trail and future STO connection, and joined the planning committee for the GPC/Divide Property. We met multiple times with elected officials of Kitsap, Poulsbo, and our State Rep. Greg Nance to advocate for non-motorized trails and ensure ongoing support of the P2SP/STO projects through such regular mechanisms as the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP).
2026 Goals
We will continue work on our STO/Puget Sound to Pacific Partnerships and next steps to deliver commitments of the RAISE grant projects across north Kitsap. In our continued outreach and awareness raising with elected officials and the public, we will have a special focus on accessibility this year, including creation of new educational and awareness materials on accessibility of trails and good trail design. We will support county trail maintenance and habitat restoration along trails with newly purchased tools and work parties. We will continue to participate in the GPC/Divide property and public access planning and help to create and place additional signage for trails.
