At Our Forest Fund, we believe that conserving the forests we already have is crucial in saving the ecosystem we call home. It’s everybody’s home, and our very lives depend upon it.
Our Forest Fund spearheaded the effort to purchase the timber rights to the remaining trees in the Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park which would otherwise have been clearcut.
Through our work and the generosity & vision of donors like you, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, the Suquamish Tribe, several family foundations, and county & state officials, 756 acres of forest were saved in the 2022 tree campaign.
The community was challenged to raise $500,000 of the $4.425 million required. Donors to the 2022 tree saving campaign not only met the challenge, but exceeded it and met it early.
Now it is time to save the rest!
The goal of Our Forest Fund’s second tree campaign is to save the remaining 1000 acres at Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park (PGFHP) which are still at risk of clearcut (i.e. lime green area on map). In fact, since the end of the first campaign in 2022 another 200 acres have been or are scheduled to be harvested! Time is of the essence.
The immediate objective is to raise $1 million dollars to start, double the initial amount for the first campaign. This is where your financial support comes in.
It will take much more than $1 million to buy the timber rights to the remaining trees, but it gets the ball rolling and demonstrates the unwavering community support for conserving our forests
Conserving Forest Is True Legacy
In this changing climate, the planet needs forests as never before. Now more than ever, we need to save every tree we can. Your gift will make a lasting difference to our environment, to wildlife, to the very air we breathe. It is the most enduring good most of us will ever do. Your donation will be actively making the climate better long into the future. The forests we save and the trees we plant will continue to cool the planet, clean the air and water, provide habitat for wildlife and enjoyment for the community, now and for centuries to come.
Please support Our Forest Fund’s mission to conserve forests in Kitsap County and promote ecological forest practices.
