We are the Navy League of The United States Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council. Our council area is located in the state of Washington on the Olympic Peninsula between Seattle and the Pacific Ocean with Canada to the North across the Straits of Juan de Fuca.  Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Magazine Indian Island, and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles lie within our area. Our Council was recognized with the Outstanding Council Award and the Adopted Unit Excellence Award for 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

OUR HISTORY

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 as a civilian maritime organization, and grew rapidly with the strong encouragement and support of President Theodore Roosevelt, who stated: “It seems to me that all good Americans, interested in the growth of their country and sensitive to its honor, should give hearty support to the policies which the Navy League is founded to further. For the building and maintaining in proper shape of the American Navy, we must rely upon nothing but the broad and farsighted patriotism of our people as a whole, and it is of great importance that there should be some means by which this patriotism can find an effective utterance. Your society offers just the means needed.”

The Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council was formed in 1948 under President J. Edward Adams and has continued to carry out the mission of the Navy League since. The Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Council supports the following Vision, Mission, and Goals of the Navy League of the United States:

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The strength of our Council is our membership.  Our Corporate Members and Sponsors, Business Associates, Community Affiliates and donors provide the financial resources that allow the Council to carry out its mission. Our individual members volunteer and do the work that accomplishes the mission throughout the year. Our monthly luncheons and tours provide education and information to both our members and to the general public. Annually we organize and coordinate the Armed Forces Day Gala and Memorial Day ceremony in Bremerton and the Veterans Day ceremony at the Kitsap County Pavilion. Our Council has adopted USS WASHINGTON, USS HENRY M JACKSON, USS MAINE, Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor, USCG Maritime Force Protection Unit Bangor, USCG Air Station Port Angeles, USCGC Active, USCGC Sea Devil, and USCGC Sea Fox.   In 2023 we provided over $17,300 of awards and support to the Sailors, Marines, Spouses and Students of those units.  We have also adopted 6 local NJROTC Units and the Scorpion Squadron, Wolf Squadron and Coast Guard Cutter Cedar Sea Cadets.  Last year we provided over $6500 in scholarships and support to these NJROTC and Sea Cadet units.  Each year we support the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair with scholarships and volunteer judges.  We host Welcome to Kitsap events for Navy and Cast Guard Units changing homeport to Naval Base Kitsap, most recently USS SAN JUAN.

We are the largest council in the Pacific Northwest. I ask all of our members to contribute what they can toward supporting our mission.

Thank you to Navy Leaguers for your contributions and service, and thank you to our corporate members, donors, business associates, and community affiliate members. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you.
