The 175 member Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club (FJGC) will celebrate its 57th anniversary in 2025.  FJGC holds nine meetings open to the public each year at the Greater Hansville Community Center.  FJGC features talented speakers from the Pacific Northwest gardening community.  In addition, members share their knowledge during the horticulture segment of the meetings. Members collect cash and food to donate to the ShareNet Food Bank monthly.

Annually FJGC gives $6000+ in scholarships to students who plan careers in horticulture or environmental science and calls for grants for community gardening projects.  Yearly, we grant the Buck Lake Native Plant Garden $600.  http://bucklakegarden.com/. This year we donated $2400 To the Hansville Greenway Association to help fund transportation for elementary students who participate in educational trips learning about preservation and conservation.

The annual garden sale is held the Saturday before Mother's Day. This year's sale will be held on Saturday, May 10.   between 9 am and noon at Buck Lake County Park, 5969 Buck Lake Road NE, Hansville. This highly anticipated sale draws local and regional gardeners.  Members grow and donate carefully curated and reasonably priced vegetables, annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, native plants, ground covers, flower arrangements, and garden art.

Giving Activity

Mission

The Flotsam & Jetsam Garden Club mission is to educate members through expert speakers, field trips and workshops on gardening; to support local and regional efforts in preservation, conservation, and beautification; to fund scholarships and grants for students and projects in horticultural-related fields; and to strengthen the Hansville Community through social and charitable activities.

Needs

Several local garden clubs have ceased operations in recent years. FJGC hopes to fill the need for some of those former members by continuing to field a strong roster of speakers and presenting opportunities to learn more about gardening and the gardener's valuable role in nature.
