For the past fifty years, the mission of the Greater Hansville Community Center (GHCC) has been to provide a gathering place to host events, connect with other people and build community. GHCC has no paid staff and operates solely on volunteer effort. In 2024 we renewed our ground lease with the County and replaced our septic system. We are currently raising funds for our kitchen remodel to meet current Health Department standards and replace the cabinetry, which is forty years old.
GHCC organizes several programs for children, namely, the Easter Egg Hunt, the Halloween Carnival and the Children's Christmas Party. We hold a Neighbor's Lunch every month between September and May featuring speakers on a variety of topics and a series titled Tuesday Talks. Past presenters include Paul Bannick, an award-winning avian photographer and speakers on Medicare and AI (artificial intelligence) . We are planning a Candidates Night in October, prior to the November 2026 elections.
We hold Spring and Fall Book Sales, the "Junk in the Trunk" Community Garage Sale , the Spring Fling Artisan Market and Chili Cook Off fundraiser. This March we are reprising "Discover Hansville: a Community Open House" in which representatives from County departments and local non-profits staff display booths and answer questions from the public.
In 2025 GHCC awarded $8,500 in scholarships to support local college students. We act as a fiscal agent for several small, local, non-profit agencies. Local non-profit organizations such as the Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club and the Hansville Greenway rent the facility at reduced rates.
Since, everyone needs fun and entertainment, we are holding a St Patrick's Day Celebration on Saturday March 14 and the Hansville Car Show in July. We are planning to reintroduce our July 4 Breakfast. We publicize our events and those of other non-profit agencies through our monthly online newsletter the Hansville Log.
