The Kitsap Community & Agricultural Alliance (KCAA) is the longest-standing agriculture-focused nonprofit in Kitsap County. Led by a volunteer Board of Directors — many of whom are farmers — KCAA has supported local agriculture and strengthened the farming community for decades.
In recent years, KCAA has offered free classes and workshops for beginning farmers and the broader community, advocated for agriculture at the county level, and supported local food hubs and signature events such as the Kitsap Farm Tour and the Junior Livestock Auction at the Kitsap County Fair. We proudly serve as fiscal sponsor for Roots Farm in Poulsbo and the Annual Kitsap Farm Tour, an initiative of the Kitsap Agritourism Coalition.
Our recent advocacy work includes hosting a County Commissioner Candidate Forum in 2024, giving the agricultural community and opportunity to directly address the candidates and ask important questions pertaining to agriculture. In 2025, we partnered with the Department of Community Development (DCD) during Kitsap County’s Year of the Rural, advising stakeholders on proposed Comprehensive Plan revisions — including the approval of an Agriculture Advisory Council, which is now moving toward formation.
In spring 2026, we will offer 16 youth scholarships, in partnership with the Mason-Kitsap Farm Bureau, to participants in the Junior Livestock Auction. These scholarships help offset startup costs for county fair animal projects. We will also provide 20 scholarships to a local screening of the documentary This Is Women’s Work, highlighting the vital role of women in agriculture.
Through our Barns of Kitsap initiative, we preserve and share the stories of historic barns and farms across the county. In 2025, we released The History of the Petersen Farm, exploring the 140-year legacy of one of Kitsap’s most iconic farms. Preservation of the historic Petersen Farm barn quickly became a central priority - protecting not just a structure, but a vital piece of Kitsap’s agricultural history.
Alongside this work, we launched Field Notes, our quarterly newsletter, to keep the community informed about agricultural happenings across the county and to bring the stories of local producers to life through our Farmer Spotlights.
Looking ahead to 2026, we plan to collaborate closely with the newly formed Agriculture Advisory Council, expand fiscal sponsorship opportunities, and develop a countywide social group for ag-involved and ag-curious youth. And perhaps — we may even revive the beloved Kitsap Grown Harvest Dinner!
