West Sound Technology Association

A nonprofit organization

WSTA hosts the West Sound CoderDojo program - which offers free coding classes to all ages and levels.

Mission

The mission of West Sound Technology Association (WSTA) is to educate, influence and promote an innovative and vital technology economy. WSTA hosts the West Sound CoderDojo program, which provides free, all-ages events to learn coding, leadership, peer collaboration, computational thinking, and self-paced problem-solving while having fun. Special emphasis is on reaching underserved communities, and those who identify as female.

Needs

We provide loaner laptops and Chromebooks for those who cannot afford their own, and have a library of books and projects that can be used in session or taken home for flipped classroom collaboration. We also provide healthy snacks and fun educational giveaways during special events. A majority of our equipment has aged out and needs to be replaced.

In addition, our association recently experienced the tragic and sudden death of William “Bill” Huckabee, a longtime WSTA Secretary and WSCD founding member and mentor who had been with us for 23 years. In honor of his unprecedented commitment and dedication to not only our organizations but to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning, we would like to fund a scholarship in his name so that community members who meet the stated criteria can apply. It’s something Bill would have loved, and it’s the least we can do given our deep love for him and his servant leadership.
