WSTA hosts the West Sound CoderDojo program - which offers free coding classes to all ages and levels.

DojoCon 2016 was hosted by CoderDojo DĂșn Laoghaire (Dublin, Ireland) from 21-23 October in the dlr LexIcon, the Royal Marine Hotel and the People's Park.  Over 250 people from the CoderDojo community worldwide came together to share their knowledge and vision for the future, uniting and engaging dojos from near and afar. Here's some footage from the day at the Royal Marine which gives an idea of what this awesome event was like. Might even see some people you know ;) It was such a pleasure to meet everyone, including the founders of this global movement. Enjoy!

Mission

*Empowering Kitsap’s Architects of Tomorrow*

-Our Mission: Beyond the Screen-

At the West Sound Technology Association (WSTA), we believe technology is the most powerful bridge to a vital, innovative economy. Our flagship program, West Sound CoderDojo, provides a free, all-ages space where the community gathers to master more than just syntax.

We aren't just teaching people how to "type" code; we are a critical thinking and leadership lab. In our sessions, participants of all ages learn peer collaboration, computational thinking, and self-paced problem-solving. With a special emphasis on reaching underserved communities, we ensure that the "digital divide" doesn't stand in the way of any curious mind.

-The Vision: AI as Our Co-Journeyer-

We recognize that Artificial Intelligence is changing the landscape. At the Dojo, we don’t fear this change—we lead it. We view AI as a co-journeyer in the creative process. We teach our students to walk side-by-side with these systems, providing the human heart, ethics, and high-level intent that machines cannot replicate. We aren't training "typists"; we are empowering architects of technology.

Needs

-How Your Gift Makes an Impact-

Celebrating over 10 years of impact in Kitsap, we find that much of our equipment has "aged out." Your support ensures our doors stay open and our programs stay free:

*Laptops & Chromebooks: We provide loaner tech so that financial barriers never stop someone from learning. We need to replace our aging fleet with reliable, modern machines.

*A "Flipped" Library: Funding helps maintain our library of books and take-home projects for collaborative learning outside the Dojo.

*Hardware for "Real World" Code: Donations purchase the sensors, robotics, and Raspberry Pi kits that allow code to jump off the screen and into the physical world.

*Fuel for Creativity: We provide healthy snacks and educational giveaways that make every session feel like a special event.

Whether you are 7 or 70, the Dojo is a place to explore, code, and create with purpose. Help us build the future of Kitsap!

-Honoring a Legacy: The Bill Huckabee Memorial -Scholarship

Our community was built on the shoulders of giants. We continue to honor the memory of William “Bill” Huckabee, a WSTA founding member and mentor whose 23 years of servant leadership shaped our organization.

In honor of Bill’s unprecedented dedication to STEM learning, we have launched a scholarship in his name to support community members who embody his passion for science and technology. This year, your Great Give donations will help us fund the next round of scholars, keeping Bill’s spirit of servant leadership alive in the next generation.
